 What's happening at Vopak Australia - July/August 2010

National Leadership Team Meeting Decisions - 29 July 2010

Safety Budget Approval

In response to operator needs in relation to safety - a budget has been approved to deal with some minor issues at the terminals and also to incorporate a list of some other safety related items.

This dedicated budget will be $30,000 a year for Sydney (Sites A and B) and $10,000 a year for Darwin.  In the case of Darwin, it will be under the responsibility of the Terminal Superintendent and will be administered by the Safety Committee.

It is expected that this will help to improve our Safety culture here in Asutralia - and will bring us in line with other Vopak Terminals such as Belgium where it ahs already been implemented, with very positive results for the last two years.

World Class Operator

A decision has been signed off for the NLT approved World Class Operator Training Programme which was developed by the recently appointed OpEx trainer, John Bofilios.  This training programme is sa 3 year progressive learning system for new and existing operational staff.

Made up of 5 areas of excellence, with a Certificate for the completion of each: a pass rate of 90% will enable the operator to receive a World Class Operator Certificate and be known as a Vopak World Class Operator.

Darwin Terminal Plan

Approval was given for the Darwin Terminal Plan which was developed by Terminal Manager, Corey Rogers.  The method of execution was discussed withCorey who will have the responsibility of making it work.

This Plan covers GOALS in the area of Safety, Maintenance & Procurement, Customer Service & Sustainability, Human Resource Management, CRSA & THA, and TM & Safety Committee Meetings.

LEAN Project Charters

The NLT were briefed on, and gave the go-ahead for the three LEAN PROJECT CHARTERS.  These are:

  • Optimising the management of change and the new product introduction process (Sydney Sites A & B, and Darwin)
  • Optimising the management of maintenance contractors performing routine and breakdown maintenance works (Sydney Sites A & B)
  • Optimise the stock control process and product quality management (Sydney - Site B and Darwin)
  • LEAN programme - the 5S programme update was given with results of the office clean-up and office audits.  The programme will now be further developed and followed up by Luiza Soulos.

One Building Project

This is progressing step by step.  The NLT reviewed the project and is now preparing for the updated plan to reflect all of the feedback received to date, in order to accommodate the requirements of amalgamating everyone into a single building.  In addition, consideration is being given to ensure a complete and effective running of terminal operations.

It was confirmed that the project is to be managed by:

  • Michiel Gilsing - Project Owner
  • Eric Strautins  - Project Manager
  • Brian Williamson will have a role as the Project Engineer
  • Glen Davenport and Seine Abe-Weatherhead, as internal customers, will be providing feedback from an operational and HR point of view.
